Christmas - Halloween Tealight Holder STEM project.

(0)
A fun and interesting Tealight Candle Holder project ideal for a Year 8 or Year 9 class studying Design and Technology / STEM. This resource is a 20-page A4 sized booklet designed to be user friendly in guiding students through the design and manufacture of a wooden Tealight Holder. The theme of Halloween or Christmas makes this booklet ideal for Term 1 although students can produce non-festive designs if desired. The project is suited to any typical school workshop but access to a laser cutter (and drawing software) is essential. The manufactured outcome has a high level of aesthetic quality whilst being relatively quick and inexpensive to manufacture. The project aims to engage students and improve their knowledge, understanding and skills in: -The Design Process -Concept Sketching. -CADCAM -Working with Wood. -Engineering Drawings. The topic of light, candles and festivities also lends itself well to cross curricular themes and diversity e.g. Chinese New Year, Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) etc. Booklet 20 x A4 pages. Easy to view and read with clear illustrations and learning objectives. Topics include: Research (Target Market) Specifications Concepts CADCAM Manufacturing (Processes and Assembly details) Evaluation Engineering Drawing Natural and Manmade Wood. Revision Manufactured project The Tealight Holder is ornamental and compact. It gives students the flexibility to be creative with the design of the front panel which is lasercut and screw fixed to a wooden base. A large hole must be drilled into the wooden base to accommodate the tealight. The wooden base requires sandpapering, and the project can be varnished before or after assembly. The assembly is very straightforward. Also included. -Teacher information and manufacturing details (project photos and resource list with supplier details where necessary).
